   Just send the message. You either have to pay for it or not. Generally someone has to pay for it. The only things that are free in life are air (for now) and being born. Also, what does this have to do with dining out?

   Does your friend use any instant messaging services?

   Some of them (I know ICQ and AIM do) allow you to message a user from the website if your friend has it set up on his phone. He may still have to pay for it, but you won’t.
